Hi, I'm Yuteng — an engineer who builds cable‑free motors, and a photographer who chases light.

I'm a Ph.D. researcher at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where I design wireless power systems that let motors run without cables. Away from the lab bench, I'm out with my camera — waiting for blue hour over the skyline, a moonrise on the horizon or an aircraft on final approach.

Research

Cable‑free motors

My work sits where power electronics meets electric machines. I build integrated wireless motors: the receiving coil, power converter and motor packed into one compact unit, powered through the air at 6.78 MHz. I own the full hardware stack — coil and magnetics design, GaN inverters, PCB layout, embedded firmware, and the long hours of bring‑up and testing on the bench.

Photography

Chasing light

Photography is how I slow down. I photograph cities at blue hour, sunrises and moonrises, aircraft, and the wildlife that shares the city with us — from street cats to hornbills — as well as people at events. I share my work on Instagram as @ytridentx.

A bit more about me

I studied electrical engineering and automation at Southeast University in Nanjing, then moved to Singapore in 2021 for a master's in power engineering at NTU. I stayed on for a Ph.D., and since 2022 I've been working on wireless power transfer and integrated motor drives.

I like problems that need both careful analysis and hands‑on building: a simulation is only finished when the prototype on the bench agrees with it. I suspect that's also why I enjoy photography — both reward patience, precision and an eye for the details others walk past.

Alongside research I spent three and a half years on the NTU Graduate Students' Association, rising from publicity subcommittee member to Publicity Director and then General Secretary, and received the NTU Student Leadership Award (Emergent Leadership) in 2026.
